What is the best vacation package available for looking at lighthouses in Maine ?
Looking for a travel package to see some lighthouses along the East Coast,in Maine preferably.Bed and Breakfast, log cabin inns or something very romantic.Possibly this will be a honeymoon trip ! She is very much into lighthouses and this would be a great trip for both of us since neither has seen much of the East Coast. Thanks

Pick up a map of the Maine coastline. Rent an auto and drive the shoreline as close as possible to the ocean. The lighthouses are on most maps. Be sure to visit Lighthouse Depot in Wells, Maine. We used Orbitz for motels. We have been to 156 lighthouses nationwide, Michigan has the most colorfull ones, good luck and happy climbing the steps, the views are great.
You may want to consider mid-coast Maine. Rockland has the Maine Lighthouse Museum (http://www.mainelighthousemuseum.com) which is said to have the largest collection of lighthouse memorabilia in the country. Rockland also has windjammers and a great way to see lighthouses is from the water! The third week of June has been declared “Maine Lighthouse Week” and some of the windjammers have special lighthouse cruises to celebrate. The cool thing though is that no matter when you go on a windjammer cruise, you’re going to see lighthouses. If you cruise from Rockland, you’ll see two lighthouses as you leave the harbor! And because there is no set itinerary, if you mention your love of lighthouses to the captain they will probably make a point to show you lots of them…some that you can’t get to by car.
Rockland has some great B&Bs if you’re not into spending several nights on a boat. And there are several boats that do day trips so you could still get out on the water for a close up look and photos. Definitely walk out (about 1 mile each way) to the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse -it’s open most weekends and you can go up into the light tower!
Have a wonderful honeymoon no matter what you end up doing!
