Looking for a small volume, lightweight sleeping bag for backpack travel?

My girlfriend and I are traveling to Egypt this fall and we’re going to need some sleeping bags for our trip. We’re hoping to find some that are lightweight (as we’re going to be backpacking) and has as small a volume as possible. We’re trying to conserve space and weight as best we can since even 5 extra pounds will make a big difference over two weeks.

Does anybody have any recommendations on where to find these? My normal searches aren’t really finding what I’m looking for. Maybe I’m just not going to find something of this nature, but I have a feeling I’m just not using the right words in my search.

  1. I would (did in the past) go to a good outdoor shop and look around on what they have.
    If you do not want to go to a shop in person, you can do it on internet too.
    You will know the leading outdoor equipment shops in your country better than I, who lives in the Netherlands, but if I wanted to search what is available in the USA I searched the Rei site.
    For other countries I just entered outdoor shop and used several different ones to find the item I needed.
    Within a site like that I would use the search words ‘sleeping bag’ ‘summer’ ‘light’ ‘weight’ in different combinations if the range of sleeping bags would be too big to read all descriptions.

  2. There’s a nice selection at this website for lightweight (under 1 lb) sleeping bags, depending on the temperatures you’ll be sleeping in and how tall you are.
